If you’re not into the futuristic look of Nothing’s over-ear headphones, the brand’s wireless noise-canceling earbuds might be up your alley instead. A more premium update to Nothing’s earlier Ear earbuds, these come with an upgraded charging case and are a solid choice for those who like their earbuds with a side of bass—especially since the Nothing Ear (3) wireless earbuds are now on sale for $129 (originally $149).
The earbuds are comfortable to wear and feature more metal beneath their transparent plastic than their predecessors, giving them an even more polished, high-tech look. Users can pinch the stems to control them rather than pressing buttons: A single pinch plays or pauses audio and answers or ends a phone call, while double and triple pinches skip forward and back, respectively.
The deep bass response comes courtesy of 12mm dynamic drivers with a frequency response of 20Hz to 40kHz. Sound is more sculpted than on previous models and, in Nothing’s Balanced mode, delivers deep, powerful bass. For those using a Nothing phone, pairing the buds gives you the option to interact with ChatGPT through voice commands. The earbuds are rated IP54, making them suitable for workouts and light rain. The case carries the same rating, which is rare.
While battery life is slightly improved from the previous generation, it still leaves something to be desired, with up to 5.5 hours of continuous playback with ANC turned on and up to 22 hours combined with the case. Fast charging can provide up to 10 hours of playback with just 10 minutes of charging. ANC is satisfactory, blocking out up to 45 dB, but falls short of some similarly priced earbuds, according to PCMag.
If your main priority is a cool, stylish aesthetic with a comfortable fit, adequate noise cancellation, and robust, bassy sound, the Nothing Ear (3) wireless earbuds are a great pick, as long as you don’t need ultra-long battery life without the case. If you are open to a less stylish option but want best-in-class ANC, the Soundcore Liberty 5 Pro earbuds may be a better, albeit pricier, choice.
