Labor Day sales usually mean hunting for discounts on the big-ticket items—TVs , tablets , maybe even a new pair of headphones . But this year, one of the better deals I’ve spotted is on a home speaker that almost never sees a discount: the Sonos Era 300 . It’s currently sitting at $359 on Amazon (down from $449), which is its lowest price yet according to price trackers .

Sonos built this one with spatial audio in mind, and the design shows it. At first glance, it looks a little like a futuristic hourglass, but the odd shape is there to house six drivers pointed in different directions—forward, to the sides, and upward—so Dolby Atmos tracks don’t just come at you but spread through the room, creating that wide, cinematic feel. Overall, the Era 300 delivers a balanced sound that works well across different genres, though the bass isn’t as heavy out of the box. Still, you can tweak the bass to bump it up (or dial it back) in the app if you want to adjust the feel.

Plus, there’s also Trueplay tuning (long a Sonos selling point) that optimizes audio for your room’s acoustics. As for connectivity, you can stream over wifi, connect via Bluetooth, or use AirPlay 2 if you’re in the Apple ecosystem. There’s also built-in Alexa for voice commands, and a line-in option for plugging in other gear, though it requires a separate adapter. What the Era 300 doesn’t offer is portability—this is a nine-pound speaker that stays put. It’s not waterproof, not battery-powered, and not meant to accompany you on road trips. But if what you want is one device that fills your living room with clean, balanced sound, this Labor Day price is as good as it gets.
