Full disclosure: I’m all-in on the Apple ecosystem, and I don’t necessarily plan to switch anytime soon—but that doesn’t mean I don’t peek at what could be. I have few complaints about my aging Apple Watch, but, I’ll admit, Android smartwatches can be pretty cool. While I don’t think I’d be doing a whole lot of web browsing on my watch, the fact that the Galaxy Watch has a dedicated browser is a great feature. (For the uninitiated: Apple Watches have a built-in web browser that only appears when watchOS deems a search relevant. There is no Safari app for the Apple Watch.)
If you have a Galaxy Watch, you probably already know you can install Samsung Browser on your device. What you might not know, however, is that your wearable web browser just got an excellent upgrade that makes it function even more like a desktop web browser. As reported by SamMobile, Samsung Browser for Galaxy Watch now lets you download images from webpages. That means if you stumble across a picture on the web, you can download it directly to your Galaxy Watch, rather than switch to your phone, tablet, or computer to save it.
How to download images on your Galaxy Watch’s Samsung Browser
First, update Samsung Browser to its latest version, then open it and navigate to a webpage of your choosing. When you find an image you want to download, long-press on the image, and you’ll see a new “Download Image” option. Tap it, and your image will save on your watch. You can find all downloaded images in the “Downloads” folder on the Samsung Browser home page.
SamMobile notes that this option doesn’t seem to work until the website has fully loaded. As such, you may need to wait a bit longer than you might expect before you’re able to download an image. In addition, there are some limitations: You can download PNG, JPEG, JPG, and GIFs up to 10MB. If you come across a different file type, or the image in question is too large, you won’t be able to download it.
This should work on any Galaxy Watch that can run the latest version of Samsung Browser. However, if you’re in the market for an upgrade, Samsung recently announced the Galaxy Watch 9 at its July Unpacked event. The watch is due out Aug. 7, so you can preorder it now or wait until it comes out to see if older Galaxy Watches come down in price.
