As cordless tool batteries get more compact, lighter, and more efficient, tools that used to be impractical to run on batteries have been increasingly popular. The DeWalt 20-volt double bevel compound miter saw has everything you need to cut molding, railing parts, and framing and you can run it where an extension cord isn’t practical. This saw is on sale at Lowe’s for $499 during Labor Day weekend, 28% off its regular price.

Why this DeWalt saw is worth buying during Labor Day

DeWalt makes the best corded compound miter saw on the market as well, so it’s not surprising that its cordless version is just as good. The 12-inch cutting surface allows you to cut pressure-treated lumber up to a four-by-four, or molding as wide as 12 inches. The dust collection bag will capture most of your sawdust, so it’s also a good choice for air quality.

In addition to its cutting abilities, the DeWalt 20-volt cordless compound miter saw also has regenerative breaking technology that captures energy from slowing the blade down and redistributes it to power the battery. This allows it to make up to 153 cuts in a four-by-four or 371 cuts in lighter material like MDF molding with a standard 20-volt, 8-amp-hour battery. For home use, that means you likely won’t need to recharge the battery until you’re packing up for the day.

The LED light over the cutting surface illuminates your work, but it also helps you line up your cut. It’s one of my favorite things about DeWalt miters saws because it makes getting a precise cut easier, even when you’re not working in ideal conditions.

The DeWalt 20-volt cordless double bevel miter saw comes with the saw, a dust collection bag, a 12-inch blade, and a wrench for changing blades. The saw doesn’t come with batteries or a charger, so you’ll need a 20-volt, 8-amp-hour battery and a charger to use it. If you plan to use your saw outdoors or if you don’t already have a work bench, you might also need a stand to set it up on.

A double bevel miter saw is primarily used for making cuts for molding, but you can also use it for making custom cuts to staircase railings and spindles and specialty furniture parts. If you have a saw like this, you can also use it for fencing and wood flooring, although you likely don’t need the double bevel features for most cuts on those projects. To cut clean, crisp angles in molding for going around corners or to create box frame molding panels for your walls, a double-bevel compound miter saw is very useful.

When do Labor Day sales start?

Labor Day sales have already started and run through Monday, Sept. 7.

Are Labor Day sales worth it?

Labor Day has traditionally been a good time to find deals in many categories, but whether they’re worth it or not depends entirely on what you’re looking for. Compared to sales like Black Friday or Prime Day, Labor Day falls short on volume and quality of discounts, but you might still find a good price on tech or kitchen appliances that will match those holiday prices—or even beat them. (We use price -racking tools to let you know if a deal is worth it.)

What other stores have Labor Day sales?
