۸BitDo is best known for its retro-inspired game controllers, but the company has also branched out into other categories. Today, 8BitDo announced a mechanical keyboard based on the Commodore 64, and you can pre-order it now.

The new Retro Mechanical Keyboard C64 Edition is based on the design and color scheme of the Commodore 64, the popular 8-bit computer that was first introduced in 1982. The color closely matches the original “bread box” Commodore 64, with a beige frame, dark primary keys, and gray keys for the function row and arrows. There are also two dual super buttons and a “Super Stick” joystick included in the box, which can be mapped to custom actions using the 8BitDo’s desktop software or Android application.

Even though the keyboard looks old-fashioned, the internal tech is modern. It uses Kaih Box switches with double-shot ABS keycaps with an SA profile. The keyboard can connect using Bluetooth, wired USB, or a 2.4 GHz USB adapter, so it works with just about anything. The internal 2,000mAh battery is rated for 200 use hours, and fully recharging it over the USB Type-C port takes around four hours. There are no RGB lights, though.

۸BitDo released a similar keyboard last year, based on the design of the Nintendo Entertainment System and Famicom. The overall layout, size, and included dual buttons are identical across both keyboards, but the keycaps on the earlier keyboards were dye-sub PBT caps. There’s also still a physical knob above the function keys for adjusting the volume

The C64 Edition keyboard looks like a great option for everyday work and play, especially with the multiple connection options and customizable software. The earlier model received mostly positive reviews, and this is essentially the same keyboard again with different colors. However, Mac owners should be aware that the control panel software isn’t available on macOS—it’s only supported on Windows 10 version 1903 and above, and Android 9.0 and above.

You can pre-order the C64 Edition keyboard from Amazon starting today, with an estimated release date of May 28, 2024. It’s priced at $109.99.
