For the last few years, I’ve been using a knockoff Solo Stove on my patio, and I thought it was just fine, if not altogether honest about being smokeless. Three months ago I upgraded to the real thing, a Solo Stove Yukon , and I discovered that the knockoffs are, in fact, not fine at all. I just wish I’d waited for Black Friday to get mine, since they’re now 20% off, bringing the price down to $399.99 (originally $499.99).
The quality of a real Solo Stove is immediately noticeable. There is dramatically less smoke from the moment you light the fire. Getting the fire lit is far easier too: The build is entirely different, comprised of multiple layers that are easy to empty and clean so there’s never ash in the way, and there’s more airflow under the wood when you light it.
The other thing that was really noticeable was the heat that radiated from the Yukon. It was substantially warmer as we sat around it, and this was helped by the Surround Lite I bought that insulates the stove and makes it safe to touch. Now that I have a real Solo Stove, I can tap into the whole line of accessories, which includes covers, lids, and cooktops. I can turn my fire pit into a pizza oven if I want.
While I enjoy my fire pit all summer, it is vital in the fall and winter, where my friends and I take advantage of any dry day to gather after sunset around a warm fire and catch up. I’ve been really impressed with how easy it is to get a roaring and truly warming fire going from full size logs in this thing.
